I had a reconditioned gear box put in at 127k but it went at 180k 18 months ago - drives ok for a while then goes into safe mode. Car off road for a year 'cos I can't afford the repair but it started first time as usual this am, so I was wondering whether I could do it myself as a labour of love for a lot less than a garage? Are there instructions or youtube videos anywhere I could look at and learn? thanks for help!

Yes, for a lot less than a garage, but MAJOR job...330 lb trans will need trans jack, Bentley manual, ZF trans manual, all the right tools and a few hundred $$ for rebuild kit.
