All;

I've tidied the stories/ archives up (accessible from the home page) and rationalised all the categories, etc in preparation for the upgrade.

There is a HUGE upgrade available that I'm about to investigate; if it gets implemented the site will be offline- possibly for a couple of days (over this bank holiday, hopefully)

Suggestion is to keep an eye on the official audifans.net Facebook & Twitter feeds
www.twitter.com/audifansdotnet <<twitter

www.facebook.com/audifans.net << facebook

Also; there's an email discussion list, based on Yahoo groups that's been around since December 2000 http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/audiowners/ (Not used much of late.. but that will soon change)

There's also something else I'm working on- details in the next week or two Cool

Suggestions/ comments welcome, as always Very Happy Enjoy your weekend....

site backup was completed early hours of Saturday- about 4Gb.. Shocked

I'm now trying (and failing miserably Laughing ) to set up a local development test bed to test everything. I'm also looking into re-uploading the "missing" images from the gallery........ 2 hours almost and feel like I've not got very far Confused

Testing will probably take most of the week- I'll try to give notice when the site is going offline.... hopefully only for a couple of hours or so....

ok;

update; Test server operational ( Cool ) although extremely slow... (but it doesn't matter about that)

The gallery- may return, BUT there are "issues" so it will possibly never work as it did before (ie. I'm not expecting to get it to work so users can add additional photos, etc.)- alternatives are being investigated... (but are very thin on the ground).

"missing" photos have been uploaded (mainly noticed from the sooty thread)- I think Mikes2 has some missing- if you could let me know either the photo/ album names (on the server) or link to posts which have the missing images I'll investigate this week....

It's progress, at least......

Probably. I doubt I'll reupload them to here... I may upload them to the site's facebook page when I get chance- it's low on the list of priorities.

Are there some photos missing from your thread on "winter project" ?

Update from the hosts; the main part of the code needed for gallery to work doesn't work/ isn't supported on the new version of php within their implementation. I'd only need it to work for a couple of hours so I can sort out a few issues and make it "stable"/ so that it's not open for people to add/move/ delete photos.....

quick update;

migration on the test box went well;- still the "back end" issues exist, though, so I've raised a support ticket.

As an aside, some "new" tweaks available on the new site (that I've noticed so far)

2 columns (possibly) in news, as opposed to the one; ability to print create a pdf of the article (not working right- ticket raised)- ability to "share" page with others via many mediums, including facebook, google bookmarks, twitter, windows live, etc. (over 19!)

Also, ability to reorganise forums:-

Forum > sub forum

It may not matter, but it's an option, and feedback welcome.

How can it work? Example below:

Series 3/ 4 80/ 90/ coupe/ cabriolet forum
> Common issues
> most popular topics/ maintenance threads
> Audi 90 forum
>Audi Cabriolet forum
> Audi 80 Forum
> Audi S2 forum

(for example)- that would mean going through all the posts, though..

But on other threads:
Audi TT Forum
>Mk1 Audi TT
>Mk2 Audi TT

As I said, thoughts/ comments welcome..... not sure if "sub forums" would over populate or not?

My winter project only has the latest images. Everything else is missing.

Can go through it and edit the posts to add them back in

you shouldn't need to; if I know where they were on the server, I should be able to reupload to their original location so that they will work.... Wink

UPDATE:

Just over 3 hours downtime... not bad for me Laughing

Everything *should* be working ok; adding threads/ posts/ sending PM's/ receiving email notifications/ splitting threads/ adding photos to posts/ posting news (back end for me) all working ok.

Mucho thanks to Jason for his help.

There may be things broken I don't know of- please reply here if so.

Further update/ "enhancements" due next week or so (which may cause "issues" with the themes, but are necessary)

Links to the Gallery are GONE. Threads containing photos from the gallery should still work, though.

Please feedback here if required - or via facebook/ twitter..... Very Happy
